truth; or marion cunningham says it best

apparently Marion Cunningham passed a few days ago. I, too, had never heard more than possibly a passing mention of this celebrated cook and author. However, that doesn't mean that I haven't stumbled across one who pays homage to her...and therefore perhaps one of the best quotes I have ever seen lamenting the state of supper, gathering, and the kitchen today. Other than linking to my source Tea & Cookies and suggesting you take a look at the touching blog Tara Austen keeps there, I'm going to let Marion have her say all alone.

"Strangers are cooking most of America’s food. Everything is uniform and without a sense of place or history. … The microwave is the latest example. There aren’t aromas coming from a microwave. Bit by bit, we have been relinquishing the very essence of what makes a home.
People are living like they are in motels. They get fast food and take it home and turn on the TV. Schools and sports groups have soccer practice or what have you during what used to be called the dinner hour.
We don’t need more competitive sports. We need to sit facing people with great regularity so we are making an exchange and we are learning to be civilized. We need to learn that if you pass a platter and take everything off it, you are not leaving anything for others.
We are strangers to each other…The place where we really need to come together is around the table.” - Marion Cunningham

that is all for today.
